Leather and parchment have been around for hundreds of years, and have provided many uses beyond what you are probably aware. One of the most common uses of these materials occurs in the binding of books. Since the advent of the printing press, parchment and leather have factored in heavily, not just to the binding of a book, but to the paper between the covers. Parchment and leather are animal skins, which have been chemically altered to avoid the damages of rot.
